Joyce, California

Joyce has been ordering her prescription medication from Canada for roughly a decade and pays approximately 50 percent the amount she would pay in the U.S. She is 81-years-old and she is not covered by Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage.

She takes Celebrex for general inflammatory conditions, Doxycycline for inflammation of the hair follicle, as well as Crestor for cholesterol management.  Within the past five years, she also was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation and prescribed Pradaxa.

As Joyce says, “All of that adds up, and I cannot afford my medications in the USA. Although medicines are a chunk of change in my budget, I do not consider skipping these vitally necessary medications I can order from Canada. It is imperative that the channel for importing from our neighbor Canada be kept open and available for American citizens.”

She adds, “My physicians write prescriptions that are then reviewed by Canadian pharmacists.  There is NO reason to think Canada has inferior oversight over medical matters.”

Joyce feels strongly about protecting access to safe and affordable prescription medication. As she states, “I will fight for the right of all Americans to have the choice of where their prescriptions are filled.  I will not be held hostage by the pharmaceutical industry or politicians who deny or restrict access to these life-saving medications.”

Judy – Applegate, California

Judy is a type 2 diabetic who recently became unable to tolerate the best oral medication and had to switch to one which her doctor says is not as effective.

As a result, Judy’s doctor also prescribed Januvia. She filled the first prescription at a local pharmacy and paid $362 dollars for 30 pills, which was a 30-day supply. She then ordered 112 pills from a Canadian pharmacy and paid only $342!

As Judy says, “Until our healthcare comes under control, and the drug companies cease to rip us off, I NEED this service. It makes the difference for me because I wouldn't be able to own a car if I had to continue to pay huge drug bills. Everyone should be importing their personal prescriptions until Big Pharma begins to be reasonable in terms of drug pricing.”

Carole, Northern Wisconsin

Like many Americans, Carole struggles to pay the high cost of her prescription medication. She orders her Advair inhaler from Canada, even though the price is comparable to her insurance plan. Despite her insurance, Carole would still have a $400 copay.  This copay keeps the price of her inhaler three times the price of the inhaler that she orders from a licensed and verified online pharmacy in Canada.

Carole’s physical health is very good as long as she takes her asthma medications regularly.

In addition, Carole’s husband takes several drugs costing hundreds of dollars each month and they have had challenges getting his medications as well.

As Carole shares, “I think it is important that we all do our part in seeing that people in this country get appropriate, affordable health care and medications.”
